  • Embedded AES signals from Kona LHe. Channels are missing

Posted by Sven Giebel on March 7, 2009 at 2:17 pm

For a long time we have a problem with the audiooutput from our LHe. We have a HD/SD 8 Channel AES Embedder/Disembedder behind our card because we need to output 4 AES/EBU channels (twice stereo). We feed this disembedder with the SDI signal from the LHe.
The disembedder has 4 XLR outputs on its breakout cable called output A,B,C,D.
On B there should be channels 3 and 4, but unfortunately they are not.
Threetimes we changed the HD10AM, we also changed the breakoutcable. A service technician from our distributor changed the Kona LHe. After he fiddled around with the dipswitches on the HD10AM the card-disembedder-combo worked as expexted, but only for a day. On the next restart channels 3 and 4 were dead again.
We have a workaround for this (we use channels 1-2 and 5-6 as the audiooutputs), but of course we’d be glad if we could solve this thingie.

Anyone here with similar experiences or a suggestion?
    Thanks a lot!
    Sven
ps of course I contacted the nice people from Aja on this. They suggested to try a new card which we did. Hadn’t heard of this problem before.

Is your timeline setup for 4 channels of output and have you assigned the tracks properly?

Do you have a KBox or are you using the breakout cables to the deembedder?

We have a KBox attached to the card.

Try bypassing the KBox with the breakout cables that were supplied with your Kona.

    Then call AJA.

We didn’t try that yet. Thanks for your help, Jeremy!
