hey paul. Can you please explain exactly what you are trying to do?

    What codec to what codec?

    Thanks for your response.
An example would be that I have PAl DV file on the disc and want to convert it to any HD format so that I end up with say a QT HD version of the file.

No. The Kona only works with feeding video signals to it not with Quicktime files on disc. If you feed a DV-PAL SDI signal to the Kona3, then you can upconvert and capture a PAL HD file in 1080 or 720. FOr file based upconversions there are plenty of options to choose from. Compressor doesn’t a decent job or you can pay for one from a number of companies.

When I feed in by firewire from a camera – say a DV source and choose a Kona codec to up convert – will the card then handle the up convert to the disc?

No as you are using the firewire port on the computer, not the Kona card.

    Make sense?

Makes sense – I just hoped that using the Kona codec would use the Kona processor.
I was misinformed by the dealer.
    Thanks for your help.

FOr the majority of it’s uses, the KOna uses codecs from FCP. If you feed SDI from a dv deck, you can up-convert your dv signal.
