We currently have a DVCPRO HD 1080i sequence and I would like to export an ipod ready movie of our sequence.
The problem is that instead of letter boxing the image it distorts it to fit the 4:3 aspect ratio

The only way I get arround it is by creating a 320×180 QT file but it yields a file much larger than an ipod native MP4

Can anyone tell me how to properly create an ipod file direct from an HD project?

Here’s a stab in the dark?
Try nesting the 1080i sequence in a 4:3 sequence and output that to iPod codec via compressor (or whatever).

320×180 is correct for 16:9 in square pixels.

Are you using the compressor setting “H264 for iPod?”

How are you encoding the file now?

I was bored and curious… I was correct.

Take your 1080i footage or sequence, Nest it in a 4:3 sequence, and render to the iPod export setting. In QT there are no options other than iPod, so its straight-forward. The footage will be letterboxed in the frame.
It worked for me with some HDCAM footage I had on my drives. Should be no different with DVCPRO HD.

    Enjoy.
