  I am stupid. 10GbE copper uses Cat 5e

  So I just realized that the process to get us to 10Gbe is a lot less complicated than I thought.

  Am I right on this? If we already have fast storage feeding 1GbE using a Small-Tree switch, we can theoretically replace that with this netgear switch:

  Get some converters to turn the GBe into thunderbolt for our iMacs, and we’re off to the races? Something like this:

  That seems too easy. Obviously the speed of our server will be the deciding factor if this works, but we’re getting about 1800Mb/s from it, so I think we should be good there for 3 or 4 suites tops.

  you will find that unless you are running 25′ or under, you will get in trouble with hi bandwidth signals running at 300MB/sec. If you are going to proceed with the 10g switch, do yourself a favor, and spend a couple of bucks more and get some Cat6 cables. Good up to 55 meters.
