  OWC USB 3.0 to Esata Adapter with RAID drives

  Hey all,

  I’m about to start an edit and am working with a newer iMac that doesn’t have esata or firewire 800 connections and I need to work with several RAID drives that don’t have thunderbolt support.

  I saw this adapter for usb 3.0 to eSata and wondered if anyone has worked with it or had any issues.

  It almost seems too good to be true, but any advice would be appreciated as this needs to be super stable.

  It should theoretically work.

  One issue to watch out for, is that some eSATA RAID boxes require port-replicated (aka port-multiplier) eSATA. If yours does, you’d want to ensure that device supports it.

  If you edit this way I wonder, whether you have got enough speed?
  One interesting solution is Sonnet echo, which gives you the choice of up to two PCIx Slots to thunderbolt. For Example one slot for a breakout video/audio signal and one for a esata or FC connection. The speed should be greater than with USB 3.
