I am working on a project that needs a tunnel of vertical light beams shimmering in a 3D circle. The effect is used a lot on news stations.

I’m thinking of an extruded disc in zaxwerks with a layer map. Does this sound right? Any ideas are appreciated.

Maybe I’m thinking of something different, but CC cylinder or CC sphere should be easier to use. Start with a flat composition with a 2:1 ratio, eg 1000×500, create a flat version of your light beams, then apply the cc cylinder effect and adjust the settings to suit.

Why not use Polar Coordinates? Animate a bit of fractal noise scaled big time in one direction and then Polar Coordinates it! Put a circular mask in the center to make it more tunnely.

    Would that do it?
