  • Shortcut to replace *entire* clip with a PNG

Posted by Xavier Paredes on November 1, 2019 at 4:50 pm

Is there a shortcut that would allow me to replace a selected clip in the timeline with another clip (a PNG in my case) BUT fill the whole span of it? This is what I currently have:

I simply want to replace the selected clip (i.e., what’s within the yellow range) with a PNG.

The closest thing I was able to find is to hit “Q” but this adds the PNG above it. I want a shortcut to basically delete the exiting and replace it entirely.

    Any help is appreciated.

    D for Overwrite.

    Thanks!

…but when I hit “D” it overwrites the portion of the clip that’s below it (2).

I need it to overwrite the selected clip (1).

I was wondering why you asked to replace the entire clip but show us the range.

    Should be Option + R.

Sorry. Maybe my screenshots were misleading.

I tried “Option + R” but I got the “no can do” sound. But I figured it out!

If the clip is selected it will work. HOWEVER, if the clip is marked as a range (X on the keyboard) it won’t work.

Just clarifying for those who might be looking for the same functionality.

That’s correct. Hit C and not X to select the clip, not the range of a clip.
