I need to add a background to a stock footage clip. There are two clips, one with a person walking with a white background. The second clip has a black background and the person walking in white.

How do I combine these to make a key?

Put the matte clip above the other and set its composite mode (bottom of inspector)to stencil luma.

Now if you want to add something as a background, place it above everything and set its mode to behind. Alternatively you could make a compound out of the first two and then put the background below the compound.

You can also use the Image Mask effect on your fill layer and drag the matte layer into the image well.

    Cheers,
