Not the way you describe. You can only copy/paste into either the primary or as a connected clip. However, the solution is to use matchframe instead of copy.

U can merge/move up/down from secondary to primary <-> with a simple keyboard combination. Shift command up/down arrow, will do it if my memory serves me right!!

That doesn’t help with what Sascha is trying to do. He’s looking to take a clip from one project and put it in the secondary storyline of another project. Merging down from secondary into primary will delete whatever is in the primary. Lifting from the primary simply makes a connected clip.

Thanx, Andy, you are right, that doesn’t help my case. I know this key combination and tried to use it: lifting the clip which I wanna copy from the primary SL, then copy and paste it in the other project to the secondary. Matchframe might be solution here. I just liked the easy way you can jump project in X and thought if would be a perfect way, if I could only copy/paste from primary to secondary.

    Edit: Paste as connected clip.

Which, to me, is really no different than any other NLE. Copy, paste, then move it into place. The only difference with X is that you don’t have to patch tracks or autoselects before you paste, or worry about accidentally overwriting stuff. Cmd+C, Option+V, move into place.

I want to know this easy way to jump project in X. Having to use a web-browser-like back and forward arrow isn’t too handy compared to tabs.

I’d say the reason the code doesn’t let you paste into the secondary is because copy supports multiple layers, while secondaries do not. In Apple’s way they have decided to just make pasting into the secondary a non-function instead of risk confusion and allow pasting if it’s a single layer/clip.

As Dave said its just cmd-C and option-V in the other project.

This doesn’t work. This only pastes the copy as a connected clip. What Sascha is looking to do is paste directly into a secondary storyline. Something that’s not possible without a second step. Or, as I mentioned, using matchframe instead of copy/paste.

Thanx guys, for all the options.
I got a pretty clear picture now.
Match Frame and Copy & Paste with Opt.+V and then move into secondary SL will do.

Well, I am still looking for my personal best way in X. Still wanna try out several different approaches, to find the one the works best for me.

Anyway, all this input helped a lot!
