I have seven projects in my projects library. I am now doing an eighth project that uses many of the pieces of the previous seven. I’d like to be able to take pieces of of the seven existing projects, and move them into my Events library so I can use them easily. I don’t think I can. Is the only way to do this, is export the projects as QT files and re-import them into the FCP X Event file? I was hoping there was some cool way to select what I wanted from the project, and them move it back up as a usable clip in the Event library. No?

    Compound clips are your friend.

Select the section you want to use. Opt-G to make a compound clip. Select the CC and copy it. Paste into a new project. Repeat. Rearrange. Re-edit.

    All the best,

    Tom

Tom is definitely one of the best.

I would have given you more detail but I tend to write shorter posts when using my iPhone.

But if you typed “Compound Clip” into the FCPX Help you would have gotten everything you need to know.

Nice tip Tom. I only wish they made it more intuitive like allowing you to create compound clips from the project into an event or even allowing drag and drop of compound clips into events. Add it to the list I suppose.

Exactly, Andy. After making some complex modifications to several clips in the project line, it would be great to make a compound clip and drag that up into the events library for use later.
