Here is a bumper selection of new FCPX effects:

    Generators:

    – ROLLING CLOUD GENERATOR with controls for roll direction, color, above/below, etc.
    – COLORED SPARKLES GENERATOR – not sure this is much use to anyone but as with the cloud generator I thought I’d try and emulate one of the Sapphire plug-ins just to see what was possible in Motion 5.

    Effects:

    – FLICKER EFFECT with options for brighten flicker, darken flicker, or both, etc.
    – BOKEH LENS BLUR EFFECT, much better than a straight blur for simulating in-camera out-of-focus effects.

    Transitions:

    – RAYS DISSOLVE EFFECT, using light rays with controls for direction, etc.
    – DISPLACE DISSOLVE EFFECT, using the luminance of the incoming image to distort the outgoing and vice versa.
    – and finally, in honour of the Great British Summer, a RAINY WINDOW DISSOLVE EFFECT, which speaks for itself.

As always, any suggestions much appreciated.

The bokeh filter is maybe set to high at 50 as the default. It made FCP X beachball for quite a while on my machine i7 Laptop with 8GB RAM.

    Flicker is nice.

Here’s a new version with a much lower default setting and an option for pushing through the highlights which ought to be useful for this effect.

Note that it is always going to be quite a heavy effect to process but I think the results are worth it if you are looking for a more genuine lens blur effect than you can achieve by other means.
