Maxed out MacPro Pricing
Posted by Marcus Moore on November 28, 2013 at 4:21 pmA thread below had us debating the internal component prices and what a fully loaded MacPro would cost.
Well, I guess Apple reps can start playing around with configuration options, cause my business contact just phoned me and unless he’s nuts, the maxed out price will INDEED be under $10K.

November 28, 2013 at 4:55 pmI think if they can configure them, it’s got to be pretty imminent.

FWIW, I think the X team is on vacation tip Monday. That can only mean one thing! They’ll be at work Monday! 🙂

November 28, 2013 at 6:18 pmI’m not in the US, but I’d guess a top of the line MacPro would be $9,500 based on the Canadian price I was given.

That would be impressive. I’d still be surprised by it, but–as I say–impressed. I guess we’ll know semi-soon.

November 28, 2013 at 7:44 pmThat’s right- it was us back and forth on price in the thread before… I was equally surprised, I can tell you. The rep said he’d gotten that reaction from all the other business customers who’d asked to be notified.
For comparison- I also asked about an 8-core with 500GB SSD (everything else maxed out). Price for that was $7,500 (or $7,700 CDN)
RAM upgrade from 16 to 64GB was $1,200. Which is right in line with the $600 for 32GB in the current iMac.

November 29, 2013 at 8:47 amI’m hoping that the 8-core 2xD500 + 32G + 500G SSD will be available under $6000… I Feel like a kid waiting for christmas eve/morning 🙂

November 29, 2013 at 8:57 amSame here. Amazing how apple can make you feel like that despite going into your wallet and taking out $6k on Xmas eve!

November 29, 2013 at 2:41 pmTry to do a bit of reverse engineering here, since I unfortunately didn’t ask about every config possible.
The upper standard config is $3999- 6-core, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, D500s
The RAM will cost you another $600 (from Apple, maybe $400 from OWC)
The bump to 512GB SSD should be 500 I think.
And doing some reverse calculations I think the 8-core CPU will be a $1300 bump.
So that would give you a total of about $6,400.

November 29, 2013 at 4:11 pmWTF!!! I just had a look at the apple site. What a bizarre looking thing, compared to the old mac pro I’ve been sitting next to for all these years.
At the risk of red-ragging, is the new one the same super-powered beast that the old metal mac pro had the potential to be? I seem to remember the maxxed out version of the current one went into 5 figures even in our British pounds. Is it part of Apple’s drive to sell more units at lower prices? Will the superfast boxes be more likely to be “PC”s running windows or linux in future?
