April 12, 2006 at 7:42 pmPut the layer you are starting with on top. Put the layer you are ending with below it. Apply the transition filter to the top layer.

April 13, 2006 at 1:44 amThank you for you response,
I tried what you told me but it still not happening, I still don’t get the transition to appear. This is what I am doing, (I am new at After Effects, just picked it up a month ago)
1. I make a new composition
2. I import 2 files (just stills fot now)
3. I drag file no. 1 to the timeline
4. I drag file no. 2 to the timeline
5. Then I go to the effects windows and choose transitions/Linear wipe and drag it to the top layer as you said
6. Then I shorten the top layer to about 10 seconds
7. I start second layer write after the 10 seconds clip
8. I preview to Ram but no transition showing upAm I missing a step?, do I have to keyframe it? why is not as simple as drag and drop and that’s it?
Thank you for your patience

April 13, 2006 at 5:32 pmOh, right. I forgot. You need to animate the transition.
There will be a property in the transition effect that is set to 0%. Set a keyframe where you want it to start, go to where you want it to finish, and change it to 100%.
If you just want to drag and drop, there’s other programs that are more geared towards that sort of thing. I’ve used iMovie and that’s basically what that’s like, but then I was frustrated that I couldn’t do anything more complex. Premier is more powerful, but also more complicated than iMovie. It’s a trade-off. After Effects leans towards the complex but powerful side of the spectrum.
