Activity Forums ARRI Tool to display/extract ARRI metadata from SDI signal

[Salvador Garza] “Does anyone know of any tool that displays or extracts ARRI extended metadata from an Alexa HD-SDI signal?”

From a Live signal? That would require a rather expensive piece of test equipment.

If you just want to read the metadata after files are captured do a search for the Arri Alexa MetaData Extract tool.

    Thanks Gary!

Yes from a live feed. So far my search has led me to QTakeHD, video assist software. It appears to be the only thing out there that does this, and yes quite expensive (for our intended application which is more along the lines of shot logging/reporting).

Transvideo appears to have a monitor that can do this, but not quite what we’re looking for.

    Best,

There is also a variety of test hardware that also provides this function.
There are a few apps for script supervisors that can modify / read the data stream but those tend to be closed hardware systems that require a good deal on hands-on input to maintain the data continuity.

Since Alexa’s are not widely used as LIVE production cameras, but more for episodic and cinematic workflows they do not have to tool set used in live production.

If you are doing what I think you might be, you should be looking into interconnected smart slates in conjunction with software used by script supervisors to maintain scene and take info independent of the camera system.

Thanks Gary. LockIt Networks and Ambient Recording offer an interesting solution, like you said more for script supervisors.
