Connection for HP Dreamcolor monitor
Hi,
I’ve just purchased HP Dreamcolor as grading monitor for my DavinciResolve suit.
Although i read lots of article & forums i could not find the clear answer for the connection yet:I have MacPro with following cards;
1-Nvidea Quadro 4000 (for GPU) – (output: Displayport)
2-Nvidia geforce gt 120 (fori GUI)
3-Decklink HD Extreme 3D – (outputs: HD-SDI and HDMI output)
4-(external) HDLink Pro with DVI-D (outputs: DVI-D) – for my ex grading monitor AppleCinema displaymy question is;
to use Dreamcolor’s 10 bit feature what kind of connection should i use?
a-Quadro4000 DisplayPort ->Dreamcolor Display port ?
b-Decklink HD Extreme HDMI ->Dreamcolor HDMI ?
c-HDLink Pro with DVI-D -> Dreamcolor DVI?
d-or any other?thanks in advance.

I would recommend the AJA converter as it has modes to use deep color on the HP and is less expensive. Unfortunately the HD-Link Pro Display Port has a problem where it distorts 3D LUTs that are loaded into it making it practically unusable until BMD fixes the problem.

Or you could just not use a lut on it.

Hi,
when you have to buy the aja Hi 5 for connections, the dreamcolor is in the same price-range as a FSI-Monitor, which is a “real” monitor. Is the color-reproduction on the HP so much better to justify spending my money on it anyway?
I think a lot of you guys have seen both. so how do they compare? (color-wise)

I tried to use the Decklink-Pro Display Port without a LUT and either with connection to HDMI or as a SDI pass-through it changes the picture… so until they fix it I consider it a $700.00 paperweight.

This is a really good point. The dreamcolors are also notoriously flaky. And just frankly not a very good choice.

The dreamcolor monitor entine needs a true RGB 4:4:4 signal vía display port so it’s a bit dificult to configure.
Allan Tepper has a lot of info about that issue in provideo coaliton web.
I was planning on buying one but maybe an FSI is more compatible, but the 10bit model FSI is more expensive.
