    Hi all,

I just recieved some footage that was filmed on 35mm and film scaned to ProresQT.
The Editor took the footage, edited it and rendered out a Prores 10 bit QT for me to color grade. When I imported it and looked at my RGB Parade, it shows a range from 64-235. I was expecting the data to be full range.

    So,my questions are:
    1. Do I have to ask for another render with extended values?
    2. If I use what I have, will it cause any problems grading?
    3. What should I tell the guy to render it out in ie: prores 444, etc. in order to get full range.
    4. OR is this normal to receive legal values for grading?

    Thanks
    Lou

Was it originally scanned on a machine like an Arriscan to DPX frames and then rendered to Pro-ResHQ? Or was it a video transfer from a telecine to Pro-Res? You are definitely missing allot if it is legal 8-bit video.

Sounds like you have LOG scans,

you should be fine color grading to where ever you push it, bit if you want to see linear from you log, just apply a LOG-LIN lut ..
