    Hi Walter,

Really enjoyed these blogs. Just to throw in a “while you’re at it…”: I’m really keen to hear how Resolve handles different formats with your setup. RED footage in particular. Any information would be great. Same goes for anybody else beta testing the software: any experiences with RED?

    cheers

[Gil Woodley] “Same goes for anybody else beta testing the software: any experiences with RED?”

On my system (early 2009 2.93 8 Core with GT120, GTX285) RED footage has been really solid. I’ve been getting realtime playback at quarter (good) and half (good) consistently no problem. At half if I get heavy handed with a grade I see a few frame drop in playback but nothing crazy. For me this performance with RED footage is outstanding compared to say Apple Color. Very useful also is the ability to adjust red settings on a clip basis by right clicking on each clip.

I’ve been testing offline/online with red footage conforming back to the original R3Ds and that also seems to be working great.

Next week when I return from IBC I have a loaner RED Rocket card I’m going to try out, I’ll have to pull my HBA for my storage but I have 6TB RAID 0 internally which should work. I’m looking forward to those tests as the RED rocket should offer crazy performance gains with RED footage.

Have been testing 2K, 3K and 4K RED RAW. No problems. You’ll need to adjust with different proxy qualities depending on your needs for real-time playback. It’s really flexible.

    Hi Walter,
Its great to see you have come to the dark side. ( its black magic) Thanks for the updates on your progress.
I was reluctant to show to much of my progress / screens shots until the products release date. I guess they have no issues with that. I have created several documented workflow suggestions form my past 5 years rocking the knobs on the resolve. I will have them published very soon.

What kind of performance are you getting on 2k dpx frames using 1 video card??
i found very low speeds using the dvi output from the 4800 pr gtx285.

I have low performance with 2K DPX on GT120+GTX285 as well, unless I’m on a half res. proxy.

I’m curious on how the internal scopes affect performance on a single GPU rig. With Color, I typically see a significant increase in playback perfomance when they’re disabled(especially 3D color space). Since Walter said he doesn’t use external scopes, I can see this as being a potential problem.

I didn’t noticed any deterioration of performance with scopes turned on. They are not not updated in real time during the playback. A bigger problem for me is not being able to save scopes position. And every time you change the window to, say, player, all scopes jump on top of that window. For this simple reason, I can’t recommend use of scopes right now.

    Hi Jake,

The scope positioning is fixed with the latest code. That was annoying me too, but it’s been addressed. Or should I say it’s been resolved?

I am having a scope issue as well. I have lost the parade scope even with it checked.

Aha, excellent. Thanks for the heads up, Dwaine.
