I’ll connect the second monitor I have in my suite to the Mac running DaVinci and place the scopes there. Hope it works out. If not I’ll probably get a BMD scope and put it into the 2008 Mac.

You should check out a trial of Scopebox if you have a nice Mac to spare. It doesn’t have alarms or logs, but it has 1:1 sampling and you can resize/reposition any of the meters and scopes wherever you want. Here’s an extreme example…

Full screen waveform on my old Macbook. Haha. Hopefully BMD will include some of the Scopebox features in a future release.

That’s rad. Thanks for the heads up. I’d love to be able to convince the studio I’m at right now to try a couple of them out. We just upgraded to an 80TB XSAN so I think they have the cash lying around somewhere. Haha.

Wow, that looks like an interesting app.. How does this compare to BMD UltraScope? Why would I use this amount of cash on a software only solution instead of hardware with BMD UltraScope? They’re pretty much the same in price..

There’s features in it that the Ultrascope doesn’t have (yet). Since the interface is so flexible, it’s a great feature to be able to enlarge the waveforms in any manner you want to see the detail in the black/whites/etc. I work with a ton of multicamera clips right now, and little details like that are great for matching cameras up. The last project I was working on had 4 cameras shooting in multiple lighting conditions and having a large parade on a WVR helped a lot. All I can say is try it out if you have the chance. There’s a free trial.

Tested with the built-in iSight on my MacBook. Hahaha.. That was incredibly responsive compared to the built in scopes in Resolve. I’ll hook my 2009 to the 2008 and test further. Can’t wait!

You should try a variety of footage to see how much it can handle. I’m curious about 444 performance and stability.

I’ll be grading a 10 minute docu/sales pitch tomorrow or wednesday in 444. I’ll get back to you on this.
