  • follow rotation and postion tç get a spiral movement for particals

    Posted by Tielman Dewaele on December 20, 2013 at 8:06 am

    hey they,

    i want to create a spiral path on a for some particals.

    I figured i parent a Null(1) thats follows a null(1) that moves on Z and rotates on z. Moving Null(1) over time a bit would then create somewhat spiral movement.
    The particals would then follow the position of null(1).
    However with parenting this isnt posible.

    How would i achieve this with expressions. The anchorpoint needs to be on the spot where the null(1) is. Not on null(2).

    A light with be linked to the postion of null(1) as well.

    I read about a couple of expressions like this one.

    But this isnt really want i want for control.

    What particle producer are you using?

    I think what you’re asking for is to get the position of a null that is a child of another null.

    Try this.

    Of course you may need to adapt for Z to make it work for Particular, but that’s at least a start.

    lay = (pickwhip the child null layer) ;
    pos = lay.toWorld( lay.anchorPoint);

    thanks perry but no i dont think so.

    The null 1 should follow the null 2 like it would be parented.
    But particular doesnt work with the parenting.

    So null 1 should follow the anchorpoint of null 2, so it rotates around the null 2(around its anchorpoint). But the anchorpoint of null 1 should stay as is(so i can link particular to that position)

    I don’t really know what you’re trying to do with this spiral.

    What’s wrong with doing it like this?

    parenting should work just fine, but you need to use a light as an emitter.

    create a new light, name it ‘Emitter’, parent the light to the null and then set particular’s emitter to be a light (it will automatically use the light named Emitter.

    if you need the emitter to be a point, set the light to be a point source. if you need the emitter to be directional, set the light to be a spot light.

    you could also choose to use a 3d layer as the emitter. just create a solid that is the size you want for the emitter, make it 3d, parent to the null and then choose ‘layer’ for emitter type and select your 3d solid.
