    Hello all,

Does anyone know if there is a way to toggle frame blending modes within a layer (off / frame mix / pixel motion) using keyframes and expressions? When using layers as luma or alpha mattes, splitting layers to change the blending mode can become messy. I’m looking for a possible workaround. I’m using AE CS6.

    Thanks,

You can’t control the frame blending mode directly. The only thing I can think of would be use a copy of the layer for each mode and control the opacity with keyframes, or expressions based maybe on layer markers that define which mode you want. It might be more trouble than it’s worth though.

    Thanks for the suggestions Dan,

I’ll keep researching the options, though. Duplicating layers or splitting them amount to pretty much the same thing, as far as I’m concerned. Any modifications to a parameter would mean pasting it to all of the duplicated layers, which defeats the purpose.

The layer markers are an interesting cue. I’d love to find out if frame blending mode can be linked to specific points in the timeline. I might be a pipe dream but I’ll keep looking.

    Thanks,
