Building and Animating a CG Snake

In this video tutorial, Jerzy Drozda Jr (aka Maltaannon) demonstrates how to create a dynamic animation based on a ‘chain rig’. You’ll learn how to animate one layer using keyframes, expressions, or both, and make other layers follow the leading layer. The rest of the tutorial is about texturing and making the final look.

Click on the link above to find Maltaannon’s tutorial.

hey! i know it’s some time ago, this tutorial was up, but i just discovered it. it was very useful for me, because your technique nearly solves all of my problems. but there is one more challenge, which i personally can’t compete with.
so you chained the different segments through expressions. they tell the segment, that they should have the position the previous segment had (eg) 2 seconds before. I’m fine with that.
but this technique only works, if you have a constant speed. what, if i want to have a snake accelerating? (this is actually what i want) is there any fix to this solution?
something like making the time-controller dependent of the speed?

hope anybody can help 😉 thanks, niklas
