Audio Crackle added to 1400 during Record to Tape
Hi all,
We’ve run into an issue with our brand new 1400 deck whereby a high end crackle is being added to our audio during Master to Tape when using Firewire Input. In fact it can be heard when simply monitoring the audio through the deck.
It sounds like sizzling bacon or crinkling cellophane. Our Panasonic dealer just brought another 1400 to the shop and we heard the exact same thing on that deck.
HD-SDI is clean, but Firewire is adding the crackle. This is unique to this deck as we laid off about 40 HD Broadcast masters on our old 1200A with zero audio issues.
Anyone else have a 1400 they can check and see if you’re hearing the same thing? I honestly can’t hear it as I have a hearing loss in both ears, but so far three technicians at a dub house, my assistant editor, my wife (audio designer) and our VAR have heard this issue.
We can’t lay back to tape via HD-SDI because that will add another layer of compression to the masters. Right now we’re probably going to rent an HDCAM deck and just lay off straight to that through our Kona.
