Oh yeah!
Lets get four of these in a P2 Card shall we!
Then we could record for what? Like 3 days straight!?!?

January 7, 2009 at 6:50 pmAt that speed one would do the trick actually. No need to RAID 4 of them into a P2 card. I’d say this is one of those signs that P2 will transition to SD at some point in its future a la the HMC150.

Unless you’re speaking from some insider info, I don’t really see the format failing as too likely at least not in the short term. SD and SDHC are both wildly successful as formats that you’ll find in a huge variety of DSLRs, Compact Digital still cameras and HD cameras- not to mention cell phones and other digital gear. Soooo a variation with far higher throughput and capacity sounds like just what the doctor ordered. Or were you talking about the media itself failing to record?

January 10, 2009 at 3:29 amI just was thinking about the redundancy in a P2 VS an SD as well as their long term durability when it come to swapping them every hours or so in busy shoots, and on hot/cold sets. In DSLR and consumer camcorders, they almost never leave the SD slot. This is just cheap plastic after all…
Of course, this seems to be still far from getting in ours hands, by then, we’ll be transferring via WIFI 50 miles away 🙂

January 10, 2009 at 7:22 pmthe problem with P2 in the future will be the speed, when we go to 1080 50p – then the new SD card maybe will be a new storage solution. Today I use SDHC cards on my Sony EX3 kamera. They cost less than 1/10 of the price of the original sony SXS cards. When we can use standard memorycards – the price will really drop….
