  DVCPro HD route to Avid XpressPro

  I am going to be editing a doc that is shot primarily on DVCam with some scenics shot on DVCPro HD, the show will be edited on Avid XpressPro. The cameraman has delivered several DVD’s with “QT-wrapped” DVCProHD files. He believes it is possible to import these files to Final Cut Pro and export them as DV files that I can import to the Avid. Is this correct? Do I need any extra software? Is there a way to avoid the FCP step and convert the files as they import to the Avid?

  Why can’t he give you the MXF files?

  I’ll check to see if he can. Can mxf files import directly in DV format?

  NOt if he shot in HD. I would import the MXF files to Avid and then do your conversion there, rather than take a quicktime file, convert it to another quicktime file, and then convert it to an Avid file. he can also downconvert in camera to give you a dv tape. Wouldn’t that be the easiest?
