We recently did a shoot with the DVC tapes in 16:9. However, when we put the tapes in the HD1200A the footage is coming out as 4:3 and is being imported as such in FCP. We’ve tried everything does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks,

Do they also happen to be DV quality? That deck can downconvert to DV as you capture. Setting 804 I think, in the 1200HD menus.

    Jon:

Were the tapes standard def i.e. DV, DVCPRO or even DVCPRO 50? If so, the AJ-HD1200A deck has no means of cropping a “16×9 tape” to a “4×3 OP”…. The 1200 can do that from an HD tape, but not an SD tape. in a nutshell, the deck can’t do that to SD tapes.

Can’t you check anamorphic “yes” in the FCP browser for each clip after you import and have FCP recognize them correctly? I haven’t used the HD1200 deck, but have imported from dvcpro tapes shot 16×9 – via firewire and all worked fine.
