  • Making FCPX template that Adapts to text amount

Posted by Wesley Kelemen on August 9, 2016 at 9:42 am

I already have a “template” or text effect I use for final cut but it really doesn’t save me enough time.

I have white text with black rectangular boxes behind each line. Similar to those facebook videos you seen or captions in general I guess.

Is there a way to make the black background to adjust itself to the amount of text I put on each line. So If I write 3 separate lines at different lengths the 3 black boxes automatically fit the length of the line.

    Thanks guys for any help

Here’s a Title effect that does pretty much exactly what you are describing.

    10400_tkysubtitler3.2.zip

It uses a Clone of the text layer to which is added a Simple Border filter which fills out the area behind the text.

For more than one line you’d need to use more than one instance or rework the effect as necessary.

    Hope that helps.

And if you want to simply make the exact same thing yourself…

FWIW my version has a technique for creating rounded corners which is quite interesting if that’s something you like.
