Help painting a line of light – project is due tomorrow!
OK, I’ve tried everything but can’t make this work. What I’m trying to do is paint a line using light that wraps around text from back to front.
The line is wave shaped, paints on, arcs upward behind the text (the word Martial), reaches a peak, then arcs down and should continue it’s path in front of the text. Can’t get it to work.
I’ve tried putting the line below the text, duplicating it, putting the dupe on top and then bringing the dupe in when I want the wrap to come around front. This does not work, because of the slow rate at which the light paints on, which I don’t want to change. (I know this is hard to explain, but trust me, this method doesn’t work.)
So then, I tried creating a clone layer of the top line and masking the first half of it, so that it only becomes visible halfway through, but I can’t get the mask to work. What am I missing?
What other method can I try?

This is probably easiest in a 2D project.
Layer 1 – “Martial Arts Tips” Text or just “Arts Tips”
Layer 2 – Your Paint stroke
Layer 3 – Just the Word “Martial”This will sandwich the paint stroke in the middle of the text, giving it the effect that it is behind the word Martial and then in front of the words Arts Tips. Hope this helps.

Thank you Steven, this was it. I was so focused on manipulating the stroke, the type never even occured to me. Out of curiosity, do you know why the mask didn’t work on the paint stroke clone layer?

The Mask took will work on a Paint Stroke layer. The reason it did not work on your Paint Stroke is because your Outline Brush Type is set to Airbrush. If it was set to Solid the Mask took would be enabled. To get around this use the Mask tool on the Group instead of the Paint Stroke layer. Hope this helps.
