Anyone out there familiar with this technique? It seems to be pretty popular in television these days.

There’s a great tutorial on drawing lines on maps, for instance, at this site:

Is this what you’re looking for?

    Heya,

Sorry to hijack the post, but I’m looking for a similar solution. The above tutorial is great, but what if you want to draw something more complex? After Effects write on filter is great as you can import paths that you would like to follow, so you can have text writing on for example. I can’t seem to find anything in the Motion manual for importing paths, nor a way to “paint” a mask in the same way AE’s write-on works.

    Any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Heya,

The replicator line-drawing method can be used as a general write-on tool. Basically, take the image/text/whatever that you want to use as a template and use it as the source for an image mask on the replicator. The replicator draws on the “fill” and the mask cleans it up.

An example can be found here: https://homepage.mac.com/specialcase/writeon.html

    Cool

Yeah, that works. I hadn’t discovered the image mask tool yet, really helpful! Slowly but surely….

    Thanks specialcase!

Special Case, any possiblity you could post a version of the project that would open in 2.0?
