Hello — I have both Adobe Audition CS6 and Creative Cloud.

It used to be, on my Windows computer, I could simultaneously record from a line-out or headphones out on a camera, or audio-recorder, into the line-in on a laptop straight into Adobe Audition (then called “Final Edit”) in real-time.

My MacBook Pro is from 2013. (The bottom computer in this pic.) https://images.macworld.com/images/article/2012/06/leftside-283840.jpg

NOW, my Adobe Audition doesn’t want to record from a line-in / mic-in jack. If it does, it’s very, very low levels.

Yes, I have the “System Preferences” under Sound set to “line in” and “audio-line in port.”

    Where can I adjust levels?
Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thank you in advance. – MP

You don’t say anything about the sound card in your MacBook Pro, so I would assume that they use an onboard card, but there should be some sort of control panel for levels going in to and out of the card.

A microphone input is typically a very low level signal, and is mono. A line in will be expecting a much higher input level, and will usually be stereo.

The sound card should have an additional pre-amp stage for the mic to bring it up to line levels. Here’s a rundown on the internal card (probably Intel):

Can you adjust the input levels on the device outside the MB which is sending the audio?

    Thank you for the reply.

Messing around with this some more, I’m able to record a mono recording from a line-out with my Ipod, for example (clearly this is not a sound-card issue.)

However, I’m unable to monitor the audio through my computer’s headphones out at the same time (bearing in mind that I have a separate line-in.)

    Any idea?
