  • Can you make objects bounce off other objects in AE?

    I was watching this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkQoCCsu_fA

And wondered if it had been made in After Effects or some other type of fancy software. The shapes are really basic but I like the way that objects such as the ball bounce off other objects really realistically like they have the perfect amount of gravity and bounce (or a more technical term!) to them.

Do you think it’s possible to create this type of effect in AE? Maybe using a plugin in of some sort?

Check out Newton, the physics engine for AE at Motionboutique

That’s amazing, I never knew about this plugin, it’s time to dig into my piggy bank I think! Thanks John.

You can also bounce particles off from up to 2 surfaces using Trapcode Particular. Mentioning this in case you already have it. Newton sounds like a better choice in this instance, but I haven’t used it. I believe there are also some very complicated ways to do this using the built in particle plugins, but involves lots messing around with displacement layers shaded to bounce from (see some of the Foam tutorials).
