  • Sony PMW-EX1 Expanded Focus – Can it be set to stay on indefinitely?

Posted by Jody Schiesser on September 5, 2008 at 5:04 am

The Expanded Focus button on the EX1 is quite handy for getting the focus right on the camera. But when you are shooting with a lens adapter such as the Red Rock or the Letus Extreme, the Expanded Focus button does not realize you are setting the focus on the attached lens rather that the EX1. It will shut off the expanded focus midway between your attempt to focus!

Does anyone know if there is a setting or a way to keep the Expanded Focus on until you press the button again to turn it off?

    Thanks!

As far as I know, expanded focus will only stay on when you’re twisting the focus ring on the camera and there’s no way that I know of to keep it on until you decide to push the button again to turn it off. You might want to contact Phil Bloom in the UK and see what he does to achieve proper focus when using 3rd party lens adapters. He has a lot of experience using the Letus with the EX cameras.
