  HDMI aspect ratio capture confusion

  Hi,

  I’m a newbie to BM so apologies if this is a bit 101…
  I’m attempting to capture for the first time using HDMI, an HDV tape with a Sony V1P. (previously I’ve always used firewire)

  The only time I can get FCP to “see” the deck is when I have my capture settings set to Blackmagic PAL – Apple Prores (HQ) or Blackmagic PAL – DV
  The problem is that this captures the native HDV 16×9 as a 4×3 image.
  I can’t seem to get any other setting to work.

  In attempting to troubleshoot I’ve played with my blackmagic settings. Currently they are as follows:

  

  I have played around with the above Input processing settings but the only time FCP can see the deck is when it’s switched to off…

  Any ideas?

  Hi

  Looks like your camera is down converting and sending SD video out of the HDMI connection. Check the camera settings and make sure down conversion is turned off.

  Well I just double checked and strangely there’s no ‘off’ setting. It only allows me to choose from squeeze, letter box or edge crop.

  Could this be an HDCP conflict?

  Hmmm, well if I had the foggiest what that acronym meant I might be able to answer 🙂
  …not the most technical person on this forum.
  So what does it mean?
  Any other suggestions anyone?

  HDCP=High Definition Content Protection

  It is used to scramble data streams trough HDMI and DVI. If the target (usually a display) is not passing the test, it will only get low definition video.

  But it’s silly to protect a camera signal. No copyright and such. Normally is used between BD-player and HDTV.
