I can’t get Premiere CS5 to capture video upconverted through Blackmagic. Here are my steps:

In the BMD control panel, set input to Y, R-Y, B-Y Video & Analog XLR Audio.
Next, set input processing to SD to HD (either letterbox or anamorphic) and apply.
Then in the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 capture window, select Blackmagic Capture.

Test any of the HD Standards and formats… I get no input at all.
But, if I switch to an NTSC SD standard, then I get video input–which shouldn’t happen if it’s being upconverted to HD (at least it didn’t in CS4).

I downloaded BMD media express–and I can capture upconverted clips there, so it seems that Premiere is simply not understanding the upconversion.

Maybe I’m missing something… Any ideas are welcome.

That’s odd. Seems that you have it setup exactly right. You need to make sure that your project is set to the capture format that you ultimately want. So the SD will come in to the board, get converted and should go to premiere as you HD format.

Can you detail that in an email and send it to our support office support-usa@blackmagic-design.com so that we can reproduce this?

Please include the system specs above as well as your source specifics and what project settings you have tried that failed.

Again, if you switch to a SD format and you see input the something is definitely not right.

    Sincerely,

Thanks for your prompt response, Joshua. I have already emailed this info and have been contacted by a support engineer.

The engineer’s first solution was to use BMD’s Media Express to capture. That’s a fine short-term workaround, but I’d like to stay inside Adobe Premiere to do all my logging/capturing.

I’m just happy to hear someone confirm that it’s not right seeing input on an SD capture when BMD is set to upconvert… at least I know I’m not going crazy!

    Thanks!

Blackmagic driver v7.7.2 fixed the issue. Thanks, guys!
