    Hi all,
I have a weird issue. I have a decklink timeline, with a completed video. The video looks great on my NTSC monitor, and when it goes out to tape (basically everything playing through the card). When I look at the video on the program monitor in Premiere, it’s soft, and it looks like the fields are merged. I’ve checked the quality settings in the monitor, and decklink settings, and they are set to the highest value. This is creating a big issue for me, because it seems this soft video I see is what is being exported both through the Adobe Media Encoder, and the export movie option. I also tried bringing a decklink capture into a standard DV NTSC preset project, and I’m seeing the same softness. Anyone experience this, or have any ideas?

    Dear Mike

Please can you confirm the workflow you are using.

From you description it would appear that you are starting with Uncompressed 4:2:2 media and export to DV 4:2:0 media. Exporting to DV or via Adobe Media Encoder to a compressed format will produce a low resolution image than Uncompressed.

Yes, you are correct, I am starting with uncompressed media. I am in a Decklink standard 4×3 10 bit project. I understand that my image when compressed to MPEG2 via media encoder will not look as good as when played back through the decklink. However there are two points to this issue. First, I am seeing a very compressed image in the project window (it looks like it is at low quality, and when I change quality -a nothing happens). Secondly, when I encode to MPEG 2 I’m getting very noticeable softness and interlacing artifacts similar to what I’m seeing in the project window. This is what is leading me to think there might be something happening in the project itself. I’ve tried bringing the same Decklink AVI into a standard Adobe NTSC project, and I’m seeing the same artifacts in the project window. It seems this is what is being encoded as well. It’s a really strange issue.
