  capturing DV with Decklink: no monitoring?

  When I capture DV material via firewire in FCP, I don’t get any video image on my broadcast monitor, only on the computer screen. I do get image on the monitor when capturing from digibeta, or while editing a DV sequence with the output set to decklink.
  Is this normal? Is there a way to preview DV while capturing on the monitor?

  Hi,

  Unfortunately no. When you capture via firewire DV, our products are not involved at all so you don’t get any previews. This is the same with HDV as well.

  thanks. Yes I had found the same answer in another thread already, and now I also understand that it’s logical that there is no preview since everything is going trough the firewire and not trough the card.
  Still, my producer insisted that they used to be able to preview the video this way so I tried to think where i was wrong. Eventually found out that they were previewing the firewire signal on the tv set in our edit room and not any signal from the card on the broadcast monitor 🙂
