about to order a 30inch for our multibridge extreme
Posted by Miles Blow on June 4, 2006 at 6:34 amHi Guys
We are in the process of ordering a 30 inch for our multibridge extreme. Is the 30inch apple the only serious way to go?In Australia the dell is $1000 cheaper than the apple. So what should we do. Kristian said in an earlier post that there were performance issues with the dell.
We have already spent 8 grand on this system and it would ne nice to save the extra $1000 and get the dell…but not if it is going to be lame.
Thanks for any help!

June 4, 2006 at 5:15 pmthe Dell 2405FPW works great, the Apple Cinema 23″ works great, the HP L2335 works great, and the Sony SDM-P234b works great. I bet the Apple 23″ and Dell 24″ are almost the same price.

June 4, 2006 at 11:36 pmCorrect me if I’m wrong on this, but if the extreme is like the HDLink, it plays out to the monitor pixel to pixel. On a 30″ monitor you will have black all around it and it won’t fill the screen. The 24″ seems to work better.
Am I wrong about this?
Thx.

June 4, 2006 at 11:47 pmif you order the Multibridge Extreme (and only this model), it will correctly drive the 30″ DVI-D dual link monitor. Products like the HD Link WILL NOT drive the 30″ monitor correctly.

Hi Kevin,
The Multibridge Extreme will drive the 30″ and also provide scaling options to fit the video to the 30″‘s screen dimension.
If you intend to move to 2K eventually, the 30″ Cinema display will also be required.regards

June 5, 2006 at 5:36 amthe thing is with 30″ you get green/blue digital noise on your picture from time to time – at least this is my experience

June 5, 2006 at 9:02 amHi guys thanks for the replys
Kaspar, Is the green blue digital noise from time to time the only drawback…..Other than that would you say the colour is truthfull to what has been shot? We have seen the apple in person at an apple store but the dell shop here doesnt have them on display so we couldnt check them out in person.
The dell and apple screens are both made by phillips arnt they?
Thanks

June 5, 2006 at 9:09 amI don’t rember who makes the panels – but both are identical – there is calibration difference apple seems more subtle in crominance while dell seems better at details
as for thruthfulness you have to calibrate it anyaways just dell seems bit more saturated-Kaspar
