  additional monitor

  I want to use a flat screen tv for additional monitor on my imac. When i hook up with the mini dvi to vga, then vga cable to flat screen i get a no signal message. Any one got a suggestion, or is this a possibility?

  Make sure the television is set to the correct input (“VGA” or “Computer” would be my guess).

  If that’s not it, then you might want to try this:
  1. Connect the VGA-MiniDVI adapter to the VGA cable.
  2. With both the computer AND television powered OFF, plug the adapter into the MiniDVI slot.
  3. Power on the television.
  4. Power on the computer.

  Sometimes Macs have trouble sensing an external display if they are already on.

  You may also want to check the television specifications and see what resolution it supports over VGA. With my iMac I have a 32inch 1080p television plugged in via mini dvi-vga but my television will only accept 1024×768 through VGA, however if I get mini dvi-hdmi it will accept the full 1080.

  Just another useful thing to keep in mind.
