  • Ajusting timings in AE CS5

    Hey there

I’m a designer who has recently made the move from flash to AE for animation.

Love it! But I do have one particular challenge that keeps coming up.

In Flash, when I needed to extend or reduce the length of a animation, I could simply add or remove frames. I don’t think this is doable in aftereffects, and you must go into the composition, make your edits and then adjust it’s length on the timeline on which it rests.

From this point, I have the cumbersome task of manually moving all the other elements in that composition to accommodate the new timing.

I have a feeling there is a more sophisticated way to do all this 😉

If anyone can shed some light i’d be very grateful! thanks!!

Hi Steve — long time, no see. I hope all is well.

Dave’s suggestion to use time re-mapping is good if your project is nearly finished, but I think it would complicate a work-in-progress.

You can set a work area, and then use Edit > Extract Work Area to remove frames. I can’t think of a similar way to add them.
