Is mpeg-2 the best option to render out of AFX for creating broadcast quality DVD’s and for backups???
I have experimented with lots of formats and MPeg2 seems very efficient but poor in quality.

For archiving footage from old projects I render to Quicktime with the Photo-JPEG codec at 89 or 94%.

For DVDs I render out of AE to the Animation codec (Quicktime again) then use Apple’s Compressor to compress to MPEG-2. I use Cleaner instead of Compressor when on the PC.

If you don’t have a hardware solution for mpeg2, then for Mac I like “Bitvice” and on PC “Procoder”. I’ve never gotten good results w/ Cleaner, but supposedly w/ Compressor you can get nice mpeg2 footage as well.

Hi, is it the Canopus Procoder that you are talking about? Also, are
you saying that no hardware is needed with the Procoder for MPEG 2?

    Thanks

Thanks so much guys! I also use Photo Jpeg compression (A) for backups but it seems to make thinks go allot darker when pulled into a Mac?? Weird.
I’ll try Procoder and Cleaner and see if their Mpeg 2’s are better than AFX’s.
