MPeg for DVD
Posted by Frank Weber on July 4, 2005 at 12:34 pmIs mpeg-2 the best option to render out of AFX for creating broadcast quality DVD’s and for backups???
I have experimented with lots of formats and MPeg2 seems very efficient but poor in quality.Frank Weber replied 20 years, 10 months ago 4 Members · 4 Replies -

July 4, 2005 at 2:52 pmFor archiving footage from old projects I render to Quicktime with the Photo-JPEG codec at 89 or 94%.
For DVDs I render out of AE to the Animation codec (Quicktime again) then use Apple’s Compressor to compress to MPEG-2. I use Cleaner instead of Compressor when on the PC.

July 4, 2005 at 9:12 pmIf you don’t have a hardware solution for mpeg2, then for Mac I like “Bitvice” and on PC “Procoder”. I’ve never gotten good results w/ Cleaner, but supposedly w/ Compressor you can get nice mpeg2 footage as well.

July 5, 2005 at 12:56 amHi, is it the Canopus Procoder that you are talking about? Also, are
you saying that no hardware is needed with the Procoder for MPEG 2?Thanks

July 5, 2005 at 9:58 amThanks so much guys! I also use Photo Jpeg compression (A) for backups but it seems to make thinks go allot darker when pulled into a Mac?? Weird.
I’ll try Procoder and Cleaner and see if their Mpeg 2’s are better than AFX’s.
