I had an issue with the COM port somehow being taken over by Adobe PDF Writer. Changing that to LPT1 freed up my COM1 port.

Back in the day, there used to be an application on Mac called MacCloser that closed whatever was using that port.

If you’re on PC, you should not be using a USB-serial adapter, but a Rosetta stone. RS232 to RS422.

supermicro board don’t have rs-232 port and almost new boards don’t have rs ports.

buts in this connection avid works almost 2 years

Are you sure it is the OS / hardware?
    Perhaps Avid is acting funny.

Do you have trouble with other applications using the port?

If not, do maintanance on the Avid software.

    Or try this thing:
    https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/24/rs422-file-logger

(the free demo will be good enough to test)

And, IIRC, Avid has a small logger app. as well, also worth a try.

And indeed, Edius might work as a test as well.
