  • Outputting media to tape without a mojo

    Hi,

I am desperately trying to output Avid Media Composer V3.5 edited media to a Sony HVR 15AE tape deck from a media pc, but the signal is scrambled. I’ve heard this is a gen-lock problem or a sync-pulse problem. I have no mojo but have been told this should not be a problem – but what can I do? Capturing media into the system works fine, but outputting to the same deck or to a DVD recorder is not. Can anyone help at all?

I assume your going out firewire. do you have the avid and deck set to internal ref? are the input of the deck set correctly to firewire?

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for the reply! Yes, they’re connected via firewire and internal ref is selected, so not sure what’s going on.

Actually Scott, may be I don’t have the deck and the Avis set to internal ref – how would I do that, I don’t see an option?

on the avid side you go to tools> video output tool.
On the deck, i’m not sure. I’ve never used that deck before but i would just check the menu. or look it up in the manual.

thats the manual with firewire info starting on page 32

ALSO, are you sure the deck is in NTSC or Pal(if thats what your working in)? that deck is switchable between 50i and 60i.

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for that yes it was all in order. I have mucked around though with the player menu and somehow got it to work – all I have to do now is retrace my steps and work out what I did!

Avid Media Composer Version 3.5 doesn’t recognise, or have in it’s deck settings, the Sony HVR-M15AE, which means Avid doesn’t talk to it very well when capturing or ouputting because I have to select another (different) HVR deck from the list – Dan

yeah Avid doesn’t always have all the flavors of firewire deck/camera templates. Most of the time the “General dv device” works fine.

    Glad everything worked out.
