During the Israeli DocChallenge competition, some of the participants will work on FCP.
The final onlining and subtitling will happen on an AVID system.
In what format the FCP people have to output their films, so it can be handled best in AVID?

Most of the competition films will be shot on Panasonic DVX100B in 25fps Progressive.
Some films might be shot in HDV as well.

Thanx a lot for advice, for I am not familiar with AVID.

Your best bet is to purchase Automatic Duck’s Pro export plugin:

o.k. but let’s guess, young fcp editors don’t have that.
What file is the best to give?
    Quicktime DV Pal 25fps?

Yes, the DV 25 file would work. But I agree, Automatic Duck will make you life better. Worth the money. Think of how long it will take to export and realize the value.

    Hi,

I would like to understand something – I thought Automatic Duck is good, e.g. when you export from FCP to AE and you wanna get all effects and Transitions and other information from one application into the other.
But what difference to I get in this case? AVID does recognize a Quicktime DV-Pal 25fps that comes from out FCP? So, what will be the problem then? When I export a Quicktime from FCP and import it to AE it’s also no problem.
What’s the difference in that case with AVID?

You said in your original post that the “Final onlining” will take place in Avid. From that I assume that you will be doing something to individual shots, like color correcting. If you send one big QT movie, you will have to go in and add edits throughout the QT movie. You will also have to match the dissolves manually. And if there are any composited shots, you won’t be able to work on the elements individually anymore.

With the Automatic Duck approach, all of your shots would be in there separately.

Can you take one movie in? Yes. Is that the best approach when you plan to continue work on it? No.

Maybe I was not clear enough about what will be done there:
There’s no more colour corrections. The Festival will ad some graphics and logo and it wiill be subtitled in AVID. Possibly also the title roller in the end.
A Quicktime should do it in this case, no?

Yes, a QT will work fine for that.
