  • Digitizing from DVD

I’ve got loads of screener DVDs of Archive material that I need to digitize. I am usually able to just connect the Composite Out of the DVD player into my Mojo and capture the footage that way, but for some reason with the latest batch of DVDs I’ve been given it won’t work this way. No idea why as I have literally just finished digitizing some DVDs this way.

I’ve double checked the discs in a couple of different players, and they seem to be fine.

Anyone got any suggestions? As it’s only screener footage it’s not worth transferring everything onto tape.

What’s not coming through, the video, the audio or both?

The Audio comes through OK, it’s the video that’s the problem. It’s coming in but it’s all over the place, as if it needs a reference signal or something. But it should be fine as I’ve digitized other DVDs with no problem using the exact same method.

    Tom,

Check the video input setting in Avid. Sometimes, especially when you restart the application, the video input settings default back to s-video, IIRC.

The Video input is correctly set to Composite, but the video is still a bit all over the place. Will see if I’ve got an S-Vid cable around here that I can test out.

It’s happening to all the DVDs from one particular Archive House, other DVDs are fine. I’m thinking it’s a problem specific to those DVDs.

Don’t know how these DVDs were made, but any chance they could be PAL versus NTSC? If that’s not it, how about replacing the current composite cable? You say you’ve tried the DVDs on a couple other players, but were they all the same brand/model? Can you use one of the players where it works correctly to play out into the Mojo? Lastly, have you rebooted both the computer and the Mojo? Sometimes…

No idea how they were made, they should be PAL (I’m in the UK).

Will try swapping out the cable to see if that makes any difference. I tested them on my laptop, as well as a different brand/model of DVD player.

Might give this a go: https://www.miraizon.com/products/products.html

    Could they have Macrovision?
