on my old symphony, highlight the clips, right click and select modify, then change the tape id to an existing one or make a new one.

Same with the newest Avid systems. You may need to unlink the clips first, then right click, Modify, change tape ID, then relink the files.

I don’t think you will want to unlink before changing the Tape ID… If you unlink the clip then change the clip Tape ID the media will remain unchanged and the relink won’t work. I think.

I believe when I’ve done this I’ve been able to Modify the Source without having to unlink first (some other clip modification do require unlinked clips – such as altering tracks).

This must have been what I was thinking about. I know you have to unlink to modify something! Makes sense that the media won’t relink, though, if you unlink and change the tape. It’s one of the things Avid looks at when relinking.
