OMF files are on drive but won’t re-link with master clip in project
Posted by Cathy G’nator on February 26, 2007 at 7:39 pmIn just one of the 70 plus bins that I’ve successfully moved into my AVID XpressPro project there is a clip that reads Media Offline. I’ve checked on the hard drive and the OMF file for that master clip is there. However, no matter how many times and ways I try to relink the two, they won’t connect. Anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong, or what I might try?

Try deleting the database files. Letting Avid recreate these for you may allow the software to recognize the files again.

February 26, 2007 at 11:07 pmI’ve tried deleting those but the system won’t allow me to trash them, saying I don’t have sufficient privileges to do so. Any thoughts on how to get around this, or do I need some info from the people who sent me the drive and did the diging in the first place?

February 27, 2007 at 4:52 amYou need to be set up as administrator, or be given all administator privledges. Or have the actual administrator delete the files for you. I think if you were to delete these two little files, you might just be OK.

February 27, 2007 at 10:14 pmYou should probably be logged in as an administrator at all times on Avid.

February 27, 2007 at 11:21 pmActually, I am logged in all the time as the administrator. I just accessed MAC help to see how I could change the permissions on this drive, but the options for changing the permissions don’t come up. Is it possible that the drive has been locked by the computer that it was connected to when the material was digitized and now I can’t unlock it? The linking problem has been fixed by the assistant e-mailing the faulty bins to me, but I’m going to have to dig further material to this drive in the future and want to solve this problem now.
Thanks guys for your help!

February 28, 2007 at 1:41 amRan into this exact same problem on a co-worker’s Avid. He’d copied files from an external drive to the hard drive, then tried to move/copy/delete/rename and kept getting the same error and was logged into an admin account. And as with your case, the securities tab wasn’t there to change the permissions.
There are two ways of going about fixing this…the root of it is that XP’s simple file sharing has been enabled. You can turn it off and the security tab will come back, where by you can add full control to “administrators” and modify to “users.” This might piss off your actual administrator (if your in a business that has one) if they are trying to keep people from messing with it. Adding the permissions will allow you to do as you like with the files.
The other sneaky way is to boot to safe mode (hit f8 just before windows starts, select safe mode). Work your way to the folder in question and the security tab will be in properties now, whereby you can add the permissions. Reboot and things look to be back to normal.Erik

February 28, 2007 at 1:44 amOh…turning off Simple Sharing is done through Control Panel, Folder Options, click the View tab and remove the check mark from “Use simple file sharing” which is the last thing in the list.

February 28, 2007 at 2:17 amThanks epontius, unfortunately I’m on a MAC so none of the XP ideas work. I found the box for Personal File Sharing in System Preferences, but it wasn’t checked off.

February 28, 2007 at 2:49 amDon’t know if Mac has this but in Windows, you can right click the folder and see “Properties.” If the folder is “Read Only,” you can uncheck and then be able to copy the files to another folder.

February 28, 2007 at 2:53 amIn MAC this is accomplished by highlighting the drive and clicking “Get Info” (Command i). Unfortunately, when I do this on this particular drive, it doesn’t give me the option to change “Read Only” to anything else. So, still scratching my head here!
