February 28, 2007 at 7:28 pmI’m not real familiar with the Mac OS. But in my instance with XP these permissions were set incorrectly on a file level and not on a drive level. Do you have a way of “get info” a file or folder and not the entire drive?

February 28, 2007 at 8:24 pmI just tried this, but found I still didn’t have the ability to change permissions. The assistant editor who dig’d all the material onto the drive has just informed me that it was formatted for PC and I’m on a MAC, which is probably why I’m having this problem. So now I’m going to copy all of the files onto another drive, reformat the new drive for MAC and then copy the media back on. Wish me luck!

March 1, 2007 at 11:15 pmIf all you can do is read from it then it’s likely been NTFS formatted and that’s all you’ll be able to do on a Mac. You need to take the drive to a PC, copy everything off of it to another drive, reformat this drive FAT32, copy everything back on (and hope you don’t have files larger than 2GB, because FAT32 doesn’t allow them), then hook it up to your Mac. It should work then.
Note that whenever you reformat a drive on a PC (I don’t know about a Mac) you will lose everything on it so BACK IT UP FIRST! Just a friendly warning. I just lost all my media drives and hadn’t backed up in a while–I was burned, no need for you to be.
Michael.
