  • How to Automatically cross fade audio

Posted by Kyle Le on February 23, 2020 at 1:21 pm

Hi. I see that in the options drop down there is a place to select automatic crossfades. However, what if I don’t want the video clip to crossfade, but I just want the audio. Is there a way to do this since it would be very helpful for vlogging edits ? thank you

    Hi Kyle

If you want your audio to keep matching the video, I only know one way. First, I put markers at every cut points then ungroup the video from the audio (U). I use the Split command (S) at the marker points. Give yourself some room between chosen clips. Making sure that only the video track is selected, I backtrack the video by 1 second (you don’t have to be picky about this). Group that section (G). After the audio fade-in mix is to my liking, I merge the video part accordingly If one does this for each clip, you then have total control, to the frame, on you clip.

If someone else has a better way, I would be happy to know about it. So far, it has served me well.

    Cheers !

The only thing I would add you can also manually extend the audio portion of the clip by pressing this button. You should probably press it again when you are done.

Not necessarily better, but certainly easier. Here’s a demo of a very simple Happy Otter free tool that does this.
