Advice seems to be that you should render as separate Elementary streams.

I followed the doc .. Vegas rendering settings for a DVD
    https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1105/

    I’m still a bit confused …
I select Render Template “DVD Architect PAL video Stream”

In customize template – there is an audio tab as part of this, and I can select it to ‘include audio’
Then under ‘system’ tab, I have option to ‘save as elementary streams’ and then I could set it to AC3, bitrate I want etc.

Is there any reason why I should not do it this way ? instead of running render twice and choosing separate audio template ?
or is the Dolby Digital AC3 template going to use better audio encoder than Main Concept ?

That will produce a separate MPEG2 video and MPEG audio stream. It will not create AC3. That’s a different encoder.
