Masking in Sony Vegas Pro
Hello,
What I basically want to do, is replace a character of a movie, with my character. So the first thing that came in my mind was masking my character, so the background wouldn’t be seen, and negatively mask the character in the movie. Now, this did work, but my scene is 3 mins long, and it has 24 frames a second. That would take a whole lot of time to make, since I would have to mask every frame. Is there any quicker way to do this?

You would need a tool like the Roto Brush in After Effects. There is no way to automate this in Vegas.

Do you have a link of a tutorial on how to do that? I did find some tutorials, but they are not quite showing what I want to do.

Thanks for all your help John, I got it working, although I have a small problem. When I render it, and open it in Vegas, it still shows a background, but this time black. How should I make that whole background disappear? I read somewhere that the Output Module should be “Lossless with alpha”, but that didn’t work.

That’s exactly what you need to do. The alpha channel carries the transparency. That doesn’t mean that Vegas will see it without some help. If you rendered lossless with alpha, right-click on that event in Vegas, open the Properties and on the Media tab set the Alpha Channel to Straight (Unmatted). That should make it work.
