Vegas Pro 10 trial install issue
I’ve used Vegas for some time now. Converted from Premiere to Vegas 6, upgraded to Vegas 8 and am now considering moving to Vegas 10. My problem is that, after I download the trial, I get an error that says “Failed to extract dat file” when I try to open the .exe.
The odd thing is that this is happening on THREE different machines and two different OS’s (1 Vista and 2 XP SP3s). What gives?
Anyone have a similiar issue or have a suggestion? I can see something like this happening on one machine, but three? I’ve looked everywhere for a solution but cannot find anyting.

Looks strange…
Have you checked that the size of the EXE file corresponds to the one mentioned on the Sony web site?
You might try to re-download — just in case there has been a download error and the EXE file is corrupted?

Thanks. Yes, I have tried re-downloading. And, since I have downloaded several times to different machines and a couple different OS’s, I’m stumped. Just seems odd that all three machines would possess the same configuration issues. Seems the common denominator is Vegas but, then again, haven’t heard of anyone else with this issue.

Maybe it’s a bit overkill, but I have no better suggestion right now:
– create a VMware virtual machine with a fresh Windows installation on it, and nothing else
– try to install your Vegas setup on it, and see if it works
– if it still does not work, I would definitely suspect the EXE file you have downloaded. I could successfully install Vegas Pro 10 32 and 64 on a Windows 7/64 VMware, and Vegas Pro 10 32 on a Windows XP 32 SP3 VMware, so I know it works.
– if it works, then you might compare your Windows settings to the ones in the VMware. Easier to say than to do…I remember I had an issue installing Studio Platinum 10 on a XP 32 machine, and this was due to the version of the Windows Installer. Never figured out how to fix that. Maybe you could have a look into that way??
Also, a stupid question: are you sure you have enough disk space for the setup to extract the DAT file successfully?

Ok. I’m going to venture a wild ass guess. Could it be that you downloaded the 64 bit version of Vegas and are trying to install it on a 32 bit system? Since we have such limited knowledge of your setups, this is the only thing that makes sense. As you mention, many of us have successfully downloaded Vegas 10 on many different types of machines. I am guessing that the 64 bit version might not even install on a 32 bit machine. Other than that, I’m out of ideas.

It’s definitely the the right version. 32 bit to 32 bit.
I’ll figure it out eventually, I suppose. I’m thinking there must be a configuration issue somewhere and, as suggested earlier, I’ll just have to do some comparisons to find out what the differences are.
